Water Regulator
This device, often mounted at the start of any plumbing installation (after the meter), is intended to limit the pressure in your household pipes.
Generally, this material is tared at 3 bars. The water distributed in urban networks should normally be available at a pressure equal to 3.5 bars.
However, certain geographic, topographical or technical constraints increase this pressure.
As soon as it exceeds 5 bars, it is strongly recommended to install a pneumatic pressure reducer (or pressure reducer) to avoid leaks and inconvenience on the installation pipes.
Where to install it?
The pneumatic regulator (or water regulator) is traditionally installed on the main water supply line of the building. In the order of installation, we must respectively find:- The main shut-off valve.- The anti-pollution valve followed by the water meter.-
A second isolation valve.- And finally comes the regulator in cold water. It is simply inserted thanks to two free fittings (meter connection type) fitted with flat spherical seals.
The ideal is to opt for a regulator fitted with a pressure gauge (or able to receive one) in order to be able to control the pressure on the installation.
It is also interesting to choose an adjustable reducer, in order to be able to adjust the pressure distributed in the housing according to the characteristics (number of stages, height of the column) of the latter.
How to regulate a regulator?
Once the regulator is installed, it must be adjusted. Pressure reducers are mostly factory preset at 3 bar pressure. However, if your installation serves several floors, this adjustment may prove to be insufficient.
This is how to set the pressure. – First of all, it is imperative to open a water tap (preferably cold, because in direct connection). In fact, a so-called “dynamic” pressure is adjusted.
However, the pressure exerted on the regulator when the installation is closed is “static” pressure. So when stopped, you can easily read a pressure up to 10 or 15 bars, but this cannot be changed. – Once the tap is open, the pressure drops.
Using an Allen key, turn a small screw to increase or decrease the pressure. Once you have achieved the expected result, simply remove the key and close the tap.
Therefore, whatever the pressure distributed to the network, your regulator will return the one you have set. Be careful however, in case of particularly hard water
